Along with his specially trained and certified ophthalmic assistants, Dr. Kwiat performs eye surgery (including cataracts, advanced lenses, and plastic surgery for eyes) in his own state-of-the-art eye surgery center, the Mohawk Valley Eye Surgery Center, located next door to his medical office. This beautiful new facility offers a tranquil and comfortable setting, in a convenient location just outside of the Albany area, and is only steps from its private parking lot. Dr. Alexander M. Chop has over 27 years of experience in ophthalmology with extensive experience in diagnosing, treating, and managing cataracts, glaucomas, retinal disorders, conjunctivitis, macular degeneration, keratitis, diabetic retinopathy, astigmatism, corneal tumors, and other ocular tumors. In 1995, Dr. Chop published research for the Anticancer Research Journal on detecting the APC gene (encodes the tumor suppressor APC protein) in colonic cancer.

Dr. Chop received his MD from Creighton Medical School in 1996 and then completed a four-year residency at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, where he specialized in ophthalmology. In 1997, he completed his internship at Columbia Saint Luke’s Medical Center. Throughout his career, Dr. Chop has had medical licenses in Pennsylvania, Illinois, and North Dakota. Currently, he has active licenses in New York, California, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Dr. Chop is part of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Chop is accepting new patients and will see patients in his office.

Dr. James T. Murphy III, is a board-certified fellowship-trained refractive cataract and glaucoma specialist, with a particular interest in advanced technology lens implants, laser-assisted cataract surgery and minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries. Dr. Murphy received his undergraduate degree from The University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated with honors from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed his internship and residency training at The State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Murphy subsequently completed his fellowship training at the Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute of the Columbia University-New York Presbyterian Medical Center. Dr. Murphy presents research and teaches new surgical techniques both in the U.S. and internationally.

Dr. Alexander Weiss, is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cataract, glaucoma, and vitreo-retinal disease. Dr. Weiss earned his medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Northwell Health, and completed his medical retina, uveitis, and ocular oncology fellowship at the Kellogg Eye Center at the University of Michigan. Over the course of his career, Dr. Weiss has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and has delivered podium presentations at national ophthalmology conferences.

Dr. Heather Monge is a New York State licensed optometrist and a native to Amsterdam, NY. She earned her bachelor degree in Biology from SUNY College at Plattsburgh before completing her Doctor of Optometry degree at MCPHS University School of Optometry in Worcester, MA. Dr. Monge completed extensive training during her residency at the White River Junction VA Medical Center in Vermont where she specialized in the management and co-management of complex ocular diseases including glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.

 Dr. Monge is currently a candidate for fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry and active in the New York State Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, American Academy of Optometry, and Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry. She joined our practice in the summer of 2018.

After graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a bachelor’s degree in biology, Dr. Kelly Siahpoosha completed her clinical studies at Pennsylvania College of Optometry where she earned her doctorate degree.  She completed rotations in pediatrics, ocular disease, and primary care with clinical honors.

Kelly is currently active in the American Optometric Association and the New York State Optometric Association.  She joined our practice in the summer of 2015.
