Cataract Surgery

At Kwiat Eye and Laser Surgery, we are happy to offer the latest in cataract surgery for our patients.

A cataract is the clouding of the eye’s generally clear lens, caused either by discoloration or the clumping of proteins. The most effective way to treat cataracts is cataract surgery, wherein the lens of the eye is removed and replaced with an intraocular lens.

Cataract surgery is an extremely common outpatient procedure, performed by Dr. David Kwiat at the Mohawk Valley Eye Surgery Center (conveniently located next to our offices). The procedure itself takes approximately 10-15 minutes, is painless, and is a non-invasive surgery. Patients receiving cataract surgery will need someone to drive them home, as they will be given a small dose of anesthesia for comfort.

Prior to surgery, Dr. Kwiat will review risks and benefits associated with cataract surgery with you so that you can make an informed decision about the procedure. Most patients are able to return to their normal activities the day after their surgery, and it is common to experience improved vision soon after the surgery is complete.
